Social Studies, LGBTQ
Greetings Domus! I’m Jimmy and I’ll be working to set new records this for year for “that guy who just graduated and you’re not quite sure why he’s still around.” I’m originally from Los Angeles, CA and am still learning how to dress for a Boston winter (I think it is a lifelong struggle). I just graduated from Eliot in May and am thrilled to be working as a nonresident tutor here this year. At Harvard, I studied Social Studies and English and am happy to advise about course and concentration selection, thesis preparation, and navigating the various departments. I focused on education reform and policy particularly issues of racial and socioeconomic segregation in American urban school districts. As a Peer Advising Fellow (PAF), I became well acquainted with the ins-and-outs of Harvard academic and social life, so please reach out if you have any questions about academic or extracurricular life on campus.
As a nonresident tutor, I’ll be working closely with Timnah Baker (the resident LGBT tutor, and one of the best people I know) on monthly (monthly plus) events ranging from study breaks to movie outings to (fingers crossed) Harvard’s first LGBT karaoke show “Queeraoke,” tentatively scheduled for April 2015. Additionally, I was very involved with the Institute of Politics on campus, so am happy to work with anyone on navigating post-grad life in the public sector. Otherwise, I like a lot of things a lot of other people like: new restaurants, Orange is the New Black, good books, inventing app ideas I don’t follow through on, the Fête, figuring out how to travel for free, trashy celebrity gossip, and spending more hours than one should in Eliot dining hall. Would love to enjoy some of these past times with some Eliotites!
