My name is Nedra Massenburg and I am one of the Race Relations tutors here in Eliot house, advising in the areas of Economics and Education. After working as a charter school teacher for two years, I currently teach mathematics at the MATCH Charter Public School across the river in Boston. Feel free to drop my N entryway anytime; my husband and I are always game for cooking southern foods, running, talking education reform, basketball, and The Wire. Unless of course, you are a Duke fan...

I’m grateful to return to Eliot House this year with my high school sweetheart Nedra, three old David and baby Lola. Nedra and I hail from North Carolina, where we love sweet tea, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and N.C. Bar-B-Que. My southern heritage also means that I’m never too busy for a chat, wherever or whenever our paths cross. As a college student, I spent four years criss-crossing the campuses of two fierce rivals, UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University as Roberston scholar. I spent my summers teaching in rural Mississippi, volunteering at the Ministry of Public Health in Argentina, doing research here at Harvard and trying to learn flamenco guitar in Spain, culminating in a Bachelor’s degree in Physics. After a youthful fling with astrophysics, I began researching the physical properties of mucus and human lung cilia to better understand Cystic Fibrosis. After these research experiences I was hooked on using science to make the world a better place.

Hi Eliot-- I'm Taylor! I'm a third-year clinical psychology PhD student. I study adolescent suicide, specifically, how close relationships might play a role in the emergence of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. I'm originally from Detroit (oh how I love the city!). I studied Human Development at Cornell University and took a few years off to work in research at the University of Michigan. I also worked as a licensed pharmacy technician.

In my free time, I enjoy cooking new foods without a recipe (the chaos!), trip planning/traveling, reading, writing, and coming up with one-liners. I'm also happy to talk all things psychology, research, clinical work, and anything else your heart desires!

Hello Eliotites! I am an engineer at an AgTech startup in Greentown Labs in Somerville. My company is working to reduce crop losses and improve yield quality in greenhouses through machine vision and artificial intelligence. At Eliot, I advise in all things Engineering— academics, career, and even personal projects to trick out your dorm room. I am an avid cyclist on the streets and bike trails around Boston. I graduated from Eliot House in 2020 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and thesis in flow battery technology in the Aziz Lab. As a student, I was a big part of house life and Eliot traditions like Fête. I am thrilled to continue to be a part of this community.

Hi there Domus!

This is my sixth year as a Resident tutor at Eliot! This year, I’m on the Fellowships team and I'm living at Lil' Domus, aka the Prescotts. I have a Ph.D in urban planning and architecture (Harvard GSAS ’19), and a Masters in Design Studies (GSD ’13). My professional/academic focus has been on mental health, global policy, international aid, fragility and conflict. I’ve worked at/on/with the World Bank, UNHCR, and various humanitarian NGOs in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Sahel, etc. I’m currently training as a clinical social worker at the Cambridge Health Allliance, with an emphasis on anti-oppressive psychotherapy. Although technically Canadian, I spent my childhood between Lima, Bamako, Paris, Bangkok and Ottawa, and I always love to connect with other internationally minded folks. Come say hi and reach out with any questions; as a friendly introvert, I can be found in the D-Hall’s quieter corners.

FDDE!

Creative Writing

Hi Eliotites! I'm Courtney Sender, and I'm happy to be your writing tutor with a focus on literary arts, fiction, and creative nonfiction. I graduated from Yale College with a B.A. in English, then went on to an MFA in fiction at the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars in Baltimore, then up to Harvard Divinity School for my MTS in religion and literature. I'm primarily a fiction writer, but I've also published creative nonfiction in The New York Times' Modern Love, The Atlantic, and elsewhere. My writing interests coalesce around issues of sex and sexuality, the Holocaust and Jewish inheritance, and spiritual seeking. Excited to talk with you about writing and the writer's life.

Hi Eliot! Very thrilled to join you! My partner Alazar and I are starting as new tutors this year and we are both very excited to get to know you all.

A little bit about me, I was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, went to Brandeis University for undergrad where I majored in Biochemistry and have stayed in the Boston area ever since. After college, I took two years off from school to work at a biotech (C4 therapeutics) before starting med school in 2019. I am now a third year MD/PhD student starting my first year in the Immunology program at Harvard.

Outside of life in medicine and science, I love going for a swim/ a walk, dancing and making some good Ethiopian food. Happy to chat about the pre-med track, being international while applying to med school, research, your favorite books or Netflix/HULU shows…really anything on your mind. Look forward to getting to know you all over the coming year.
