Hello Eliot! I’m Yon Soo - a resident tutor in E entryway. For my PhD in the Government Department, I work on questions relating to the ways in which “national security” is defined and constructed. I use various methods ranging from computational text analysis to survey experiments in order to tackle interesting social science puzzles. As an undergrad at Dartmouth, I studied both government and computer science. I worked as a software engineer after college, took a year off soul searching, and ended up here to work on problems I care about. I’d be very happy to chat with anyone about either of these fields, defined broadly. Aside from academics, I take great joy in good food, music, film, and nature. I greatly appreciate the diversity of paths that we all are coming from as well as walking towards. I would love to hear about your paths and be a supportive part of your time at Eliot.
